If you weren’t already aware of the VLC record video feature, you’re not alone. VLC doesn’t exactly advertise this function, and the VLC record button is typically hidden from the user interface. Follow these simple steps to enable it.
How to enable the VLC record button
1. Open VLC Media Playeron your desktop.
2. Click on the View menu in VLC.
3. Select Advanced Controls.
4. The VLC record button should appear next to the Play button.
How to Record Your Screen Using VLC Media Player
1. Open VLC Media Player by searching for it in the Start Menu.
2. Click the Media tab on the toolbar and select Convert/Save.
3. Choose the Capture Device tab at the top right of the window.
4. In the Capture Device window, at the top right, click the Capture Mode dropdown and select Desktop.
5. Set a number of frames per second in the Desired frame rate for the capture. For basic screen recordings, 15FPS should work fine.
6. Click the Convert/Save button to open the next dialog box.
7. Select Browse next to the Destination file box and choose a place to save the recording.
8. Click Start once you've done this to start the recording. VLC will record everything on the screen, with no indication that it's doing so.
9. To stop the recording, click the Stop button on VLC's interface and it will automatically save the file. You'll find it waiting in MP4 format at the location you specified earlier.
That's all it takes to make a quick recording of your screen. VLC doesn't offer advanced features like dedicated recorders, but it's easy to use. Now you can share what's on your screen anytime no more using your phone's camera!
